Categories
You can add each note to a broad category. You can use these as you wish but they would generally be used to describe the type of note. The options are completely customisable but some of the defaults include: Advice, Anecdote, Fact, Idea, Memory, Quote and Review.
Areas
Again, you can use Areas however you like but they would generally be used to describe the note's context. That could be Family or Personal, or Home or Work (or Finance, Health etc….). Your areas of interest will dictate how best to use this option.
Tags
Tags allow you to attach yet further information to describe the content of your note. You can add as many as you like to each note. Examples might be 'Funny', 'Interesting', 'Inspirational', 'Nature' etc.
People
If your notes relate to people then you can attach that information too. This way you could filter (for example) for all 'Memory' notes that involve 'Jane' etc.
Source
If the content of the note has been taken from somewhere (or someone) then you can note that here so that you remember. This could be (for example) a person, or a book or a link to a website.
Starred
Star your favourite notes to add them to a Favourites list
Action required
If a note needs some kind of action / follow up then mark it as such. We have a dedicated list for these notes too!
Health records
If you’re ill or have an upcoming operation, log all your interactions with healthcare professionals so you can access them when needed. For instance, create a custom view for ‘My hip replacement’ that pulls together all Record category notes tagged with ‘Hip operation’. This way, you can quickly see who said what and when.
Top reviews
If you use Anecnote to capture reviews of films or TV that you have watched, or books that you have read, then you could set up a custom view for 'My top reviews' that would return any Review category notes for any Entertainment area that has a tag of 4 or 5 stars.
Date night
If you have ever been concerned about filling awkward silences then have a collection of notes to hand from your Anecdote category that are tagged as 'Funny' or 'Interesting'.

And much more.....
There are many note-taking apps available, but most focus on productivity or the writing process. Anencote, however, stands out as a note-taking app with a unique focus. Its real strength lies in its ability to serve as a repository for your thoughts, memories, stories, and other fleeting ideas that might otherwise get lost in the daily grind. It’s a memory manager, a second brain, and an aide-memoire all rolled into one. Anencote excels in these areas, making it an unrivalled tool for note-taking. It’s free to download and test, so why not give it a try and see if you agree?

Yes - iCloud/Cloudkit sync is enabled by default ensuring that your notes are safely backed up and synced across devices. These notes are private to you and stored in your own iCloud account.
We have an import feature that can accept a csv file. The requirements for the csv file are detailed in the app. Please note that importing notes is dependent on the app being unlocked via an in-app purchase.
